JICA’s efforts to bring synergies between climate change and the SDGs within international cooperation

IGES published “Case studies of domestic initiatives that have synergistic impacts on climate change, biodiversity and the SDGs” at the Forth Global Climate and SDG Synergy Conference held at UN Headquarters during the UN High Level Political Forum 2023.

In April 2024, the research project “Synergies and Trade-offs for transformative actions towards the SDGs (1-2405)” funded by the Ministry of the Environment Japan and the Japan Environmental Restoration and Conservation Agency (JPMEERF20241005) began, and IGES as a member of this project has been collecting and analyzing case studies of synergies. As part of this process, we asked Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), with whom IGES has been cooperating for a long time, filled in their best practices to fit the format of the prototype for the synergy analysis developed by IGES.

Following the release of the Japanese version of this report at the official HLPF2024 side event co-hosted by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and IGES at UN Headquarters on July 17, 2024, the English version will be released at the Fifth Global Climate and SDG Synergy Conference.
