The Need of Sustainable Tourism in the face of Environmental Crises

The presentation provided the global trend of the environmental crises and the preliminary research results on the current recognition and awareness on the environmental issues among the tourism industry and tourists in Mauritius and the potential changes towards a sustainable society. It also aimed to inform the usefulness of the sustainable standards which have been developed by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), thus the Standard MS 165 as well which has been developed by the Mauritian Standard Bureau and accredited by the GSTC to provide certification for hotels/accommodations and tour operators.
