Summary Report - National Awareness and Training Workshop on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in Lesotho, 17 June 2026

The National Awareness and Training Workshop on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), held in Maseru, Lesotho on 17 June 2026, brought together government agencies, municipalities, producers, academia, civil society, development partners, and informal-sector representatives to explore pathways for developing an inclusive and nationally appropriate EPR system. The workshop enhanced understanding of EPR concepts, shared lessons from Africa, Europe and Southeast Asia, and facilitated dialogue on policy, financing, Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs), and informal-sector integration. Participants identified key priorities including stakeholder engagement, waste data systems, policy development, capacity building, and formal recognition of waste pickers. The workshop established a strong foundation for advancing circular economy and sustainable waste management initiatives in Lesotho.
