The global crises of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution, together with land degradation, are putting both people and nature at risk by pushing the environment system beyond six out of nine planetary boundaries, which are critical for maintaining a safe operating space for human existence (very well established). Sustainable development requires that society works together through action across social, technological, political and economic levers to build a resilient, culturally meaningful, and sustainable environment system. This also means transforming how production and consumption of energy, food, and resources in circularity and management economic and financial systems are carried out (established but incomplete).
