Under the ASEAN SDGs-Frontrunner Cities Programme Phase 2 (ASEAN SDGs-FC Phase 2), Prik Sub-district Municipality (Prik Municipality) organised training for community leaders, disaster mitigation volunteers, civil defence volunteers, and other key stakeholders in the disaster management network. The training was conducted by representatives from the Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center (Songkhla) and entailed a lecture on Community-Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM), road safety, water-disaster prevention and mitigation, and emergency medical assistance and evacuation.
Prik faces climate-related hazards due to its topography and tropical monsoon climate. In response to these challenges, Prik Municipality has established a comprehensive disaster management plan that encompasses preparedness, response, and recovery phases. This plan aligns with the principles of the Sendai Framework and aligns with the objectives outlined in Sustainable Development Goal 13.
The support provided by ASEAN SDGs-FC Phase 2 is expected to contribute to strengthening the capacity of Prik Municipality, local communities and other key stakeholders in disaster preparedness and risk management in order to reduce loss and damage from future floods, and the vision of Prik Municipality to become a Resilient City.
ASEAN SDGs-FC Phase 2 (Supporting Bottom-up Innovations for Addressing Land-based Plastic Marine Debris and Urban Resilience in ASEAN Cities) is supported by the Government of Japan through the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF). Implementation of ASEAN SDGs-FC Phase 2 through IGES is underway until August 2024.
