The Pact for the Future adopted in September 2024 calls for the 2027 SDG Summit to discuss advancing development goals beyond 2030. Since Autumn 2025, this theme has been discussed in some meetings and workshops. For example, the World EXPO in Osaka, Japan hosted a forum on “SDGs +Beyond”; “Future of Sustainable Development” workshop was held at Groningen in the Netherlands in October; Keio University’s workshops on Beyond SDGs in Kyoto and Tokyo, Japan in February and March 2026 were supported by the Japan Science and Technology Agency; and “Beyond SDGs Dialogue in Asia and ASEAN” in Kuala Lumpur in April was probably the first workshop focusing on Beyond SDGs in the developing world. This policy brief summarizes key points made by various stakeholders from science, policy makers, business and NGOs at these events.
