Holistic landscape restoration offers a solution to multiple interconnected challenges that face our planet. This paper introduces an innovative approach to financing nature alongside local socio-economic and wellbeing needs. Specifically, it describes a practical financing framework for HLR that can aid implementation of commitments related to climate mitigation and adaptation, biodiversity and land degradation neutrality (LDN), for example through nationally determined contributions (NDCs) or national biodiversity strategies and action plans (NBSAPs), as well as global initiatives seeking integrated solutions on behalf of system transformation. It demonstrates how blended landscape finance can be structured to successfully support and scale up key activities that enable healthy, resilient ecosystems, while also considering the parallels between landscape and infrastructure investments. Finally, it presents recommendations for Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) policy actors and governments motivated to develop a sustainable planet. This paper brings concepts introduced in Towards Financing Large-Scale Holistic Landscape Restoration in the EU to a LAC context, and builds on prior work and the expertise of a group of international organisations active in the fields of nature, climate, socio- economic and rural development.
