The state of Article 6 implementation after COP28 – What opportunities exist for the private sector?

While the negotiation on the procedural details of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement remains incomplete at COP28, the heads of state and governments consistently underscored the need to implement the Paris Agreement during the high-level segment. This emphasis extended to Article 6, mentioned in paragraph 31 of the UAE Consensus. Essential guidance and rules have already been agreed upon, allowing Parties to move forward and strengthen mitigation action by utilising Article 6. The private sector is ready to engage in Article 6 mechanisms, but further capacity building and cross-sector collaboration are necessary to scale up implementation.

The Paris Agreement Article 6 Partnership (A6IP) Center, hosted at IGES, in collaboration with IETA, is organising a webinar on Article 6 for the private sector. Through webinar lectures and discussions, it aims to share updated information on Article 6 from COP28, focusing particularly on the commitment of various countries, which can influence private business trends. In addition, this webinar will provide information on Article 6 with private sector partners, highlighting opportunities in implementing Article 6.
