サラワク木材業協会（STA）において、同協会メンバーの事業者、サラワク森林局（FDS）、サラワク林業公社（SFC）、 サラワク木材産業開発公社（STIDC）等に対し、2023年5月に改正されたクリーンウッド法の改正内容やその趣旨、特に日本への木材・木材製品輸出国側が留意すべき点の解説を行った。

森林認証は、クリーンウッド法においても、EU木材規則等においても、それがありさえすれば合法であると政府に認めてもらえるわけではなく、あくまでも事業者が合法性を判断するための材料の一つ しかし認証材であれば、事業者は合法性確認のために十分な努力を払った（＝違法伐採由来のものが混じっていたとしても故意ではない）と主張できる 現在欧米豪等の生産林の多くは認証林であり、低リスク材の迅速な合法性確認（➡合法性確認努力を高リスク材に集中）に有用 高リスク国であっても、森林認証取得の動きが進んでおり、輸入国は積極的に評価することが期待される EU森林破壊規則（EUDR）等の動向から、今後合法性だけでなく持続可能な森林由来の確認が求められ、森林認証の有用性が高まると予想される
