ＩＧＥＳ森林保全プロジェクトは、第1 期においてアジア太平洋地域における経験に基づく持続可能な森林管理に関する原則および措置の明確化をねらいとした。広範な研究活動が、相互に関連する４つのサブテーマに焦点を当てた枠組みの中で、常勤職員、客員研究員およびIGES 外部の研究協力者の相互の協力のもとで実施された。森林保全プロジェクトが開催した４回の国際ワークショップ並びに3 回の政策対話の結果を含む多様な研究活動から、多くの有意義な成果を得る事ができた。森林破壊の構造分析に関するサブテーマは、「不十分な地元の住民並びに共同体の権利基盤」並びに「不完全な市場メカニズムにおける市場の影響力」および「産業的側面に力点をおいた開発パラダイム」と「経済的・政治的不安定性」を主な根本原因として再確認できた...

地球環境戦略研究機関 (Institute for Global Environmental Strategies/ＩＧＥＳ) 第一期戦略研究は、1998 年4 月に始まり2001 年3 月をもって終了する。 第一期研究プロジェクトは、1997 年4 月に設立されたＩＧＥＳ設立準備機構において準備されたが、準備機構は、アジア諸国、ヨーロッパ諸国およびアメリカ合衆国に調査ミッションを派遣し、ＩＧＥＳの研究組織やその運営のあり方のみならず、研究プロジェクトのテーマや研究方法等についても、各国の関係政府機関や国際的研究機関、ＮＧＯ等の意見を徴した。 その結果、当初、気候変動、都市環境管理、森林保全、環境教育、環境ガバナンスという5 プロジェクトについて研究テーマを設定することとした。なお...
