Strengthening Effectiveness of Climate Change Adaptation and Enhancing Climate Security

Overall, there was a need and interest in further engagement with WASP on adaptation effectiveness. A stronger linkage to Sri Lanka’s National Adaptation Plan and its implementation is required as key stakeholders and organizations are mostly engaged at the project level. The participants highlighted the following key Adaptation Effectiveness components to increase adaptation effectiveness in Sri Lanka:
● Integrating climate change implications in all proposed and ongoing projects to ensure that outcomes are resilient to climate change and are effective.
● Strengthening adaptation projects by looking through the security lens can offer a unique perspective on adaptation effectiveness.
● Enhancing funding for the follow-up and review of the effectiveness of projects that have been implemented.
● Obtaining data and improving access including baselines, launching pilot projects to assess gaps, and developing a comprehensive framework for consistency and effectiveness for implementation.
