Asian economy is shifting towards resource intensive structure. Asian countries need to grow their economy further to tackle poverty issues, and they will soon face serious resource and environmental constraints unless economic growth can be decoupled from resource consumption. For such decoupling, in addition to resource circulation policy towards resource productivity improvement, developed countries like Japan need to introduce reduce policies. Reduce policies are important not only for establishing sustainable society in the policy implementing countries but also for enabling developing countries to utilise sufficient resource for their development. This article presents an attempt to assess resource supply constraint and reduce policies in quantitative manner using a combination of computable general equilibrium (CGE) models and a material flow analysis (MFA) model.
