Insights of the Report

In line with this global agenda, in 2020, Hwaseong devised its own version of the Sustainable Development Goals (HS-SDGs). The HS-SDGs include specific targets and indicators aligned with local circumstances, addressing Hwaseong’s unique characteristics and the views of its citizens.

In the process of creating the HS-SDGs, Hwaseong employed a democratic and transparent decision-making process by collecting opinions from various stakeholders, including citizens, the administration, relevant organisations and institutes, and experts.

City Profile

Hwaseong, located at the southwestern part of Gyeonggi Province in the Republic of Korea, is a vibrant city with a population exceeding one million, which has paved the way for its designation as a special city. As an innovative city, Hwaseong has actively fostered core strategic industries such as future vehicles, semiconductors and biotechnology, all built upon its solid industrial foundation. Moreover, Hwaseong ranked first in the supply of renewable energy in the 2023 Gyeonggi Province Comprehensive Evaluation of Cities and Counties, establishing its status as an eco-friendly city.
