Miki FUKUDA

Miki Fukuda is a Chief Policy Researcher at the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), which she joined in 2021. Since 2025, she has served as a Lens Facilitator, the institutional focal point for youth and citizen engagement, driving multi-stakeholder participation in sustainability agendas. 

Her experience brings the gap between grassroots empowerment and global policy frameworks. Miki's current research focuses on the synergies between climate action and the SDGs, climate security, and climate-induced mobility in the Asia-Pacific region. She is actively involved in SDGs and post-2030 policy discussions, as well as in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), contributing expert insights to decision-making processes while continuing to support and empower youth organizations in Japan and abroad. 

Beyond her research, Miki is a dedicated member of the academic community. She serves on the International Committee of the Japanese Society for Environmental Education (JSFEE) and is an experienced guest lecturer at various universities, where she shares insights on sustainability and global governance.

Miki brings a robust background in international education to her policy work. She previously served as Head of the English Department and as an International Baccalaureate (IB) teacher at the Senior High School in Sakado, a laboratory school of the University of Tsukuba. There, she designed sustainability-focused curricula and directed international field studies across Southeast Asia and Canada, where she spent a year as a Prince Takamado Visiting Scholar at Queen's University.
