The Beijing Office was set up within the Sino-Japan Friendship Center for Environmental Protection of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of China (MEP) in July 2006 as a base to carry out research activities in China more flexibly. It has a pivotal role in developing various studies and research activities in cooperation both bilaterally with China and multilaterally (including with international organisations).
