JIN Zhen is a senior researcher in the Integrated Sustainability Centre / AI New Frontier area at IGES. He received his PhD from the Graduate School of Law at Kyoto University in 2009, worked as a collaborative researcher at the Central Research Institute of the Electric Power Industry from 2009 to 2012, and was a fellow at the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) from 2014 to 2017. He joined IGES in 2017. His research areas include low-carbon city policies, China's energy conservation and air pollution policies, ETS in Northeast Asia including China, and renewable energy potential analysis.
Since 2019, he has been working on renewable energy potential assessments using QGIS (geospatial information processing system) analysis, contributing to the development of the 2050 net-zero strategy for the "6th Hayama Town Global Warming Countermeasures Action Plan (Area Policy Section/Administrative Business Section)," announced in June 2025. In recent years, he has been conducting research activities such as forest area surveys and greenhouse gas absorption estimations that combine satellite data, aerial photographs, and drone surveying data, developing e-Stat statistical API tools and GIS information extraction tools that combine AI technology, and building metaverse spaces using drone surveying data.
