IGES Inputs to 7th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD 2020)

The Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) is an annual meeting convened by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), and aims to strengthen the region’s readiness for the United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF). Originally scheduled for March, APFSD 2020 will now take place online on May 20 due to the spread of the new coronavirus. To prepare for the virtual APFSD 2020 in May, ESCAP hosted a series of online discussions focusing on the theme of “Accelerating action on, and delivery of, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific” from 30 March to 8 April. IGES was invited to deliver remarks during the Webinar on Global Environmental Commons on 6 April. IGES President Takeuchi reiterated the importance of an integrated approach to climate change, biodiversity and disaster risk management. He also emphasised the need to engage diverse stakeholders.
