Inclusive Green Finance: A Survey of the Policy Landscape

Climate change deepens poverty; whereas, researches have shown financial inclusion is one of the best ways to build resilience to the climate change effects. Inclusive green finance is an evolving policy area in which member institutions of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) are beginning to implement policies, regulations and national strategies to mitigate or build resilience to the sweeping environmental, health, social and economic effects of climate change. This report, based on the analysis of the discussion with policymakers in 19 countries from the AFI network, outlines: how financial inclusion builds resilience to climate change; why central banks and financial regulators play a critical role in National Climate Policy Development; and the 4P Framework of Inclusive Green Finance - Provision, Promotion, Protection and Prevention.
