日本の農村部の主要な交通手段である自動車利用を支える地域のガソリンスタンドについて、その多くが地下タンクの老朽化などの課題を抱え、その更新に莫大な費用を要することから、設備の寿命や経営者の高齢化に伴い、突如として閉鎖・廃業する事例が増加している。地域内にガソリンスタンドが3か所以下の市町村(SS過疎地)数は全体の2割以上あり、その数は今後増加していくことが予想される。地域住民の移動手段を確保し、生活環境の改善や災害対応の責務を担う地方自治体にとって切実な地域課題であり、設備更新費用を自治体が負担したり、地域住民が共同で出資して運営を続ける事例がみられる。一方、ガソリンスタンドの設備更新は、化石燃料を使う仕組みの長期継続(ロックイン)につながりかねないため慎重な検討が必要である...

025年7月19日、中国は雅魯藏布江(ヤルツァンポ川)下流における超大型水力発電プロジェクトの事業主体となる「中国雅江集団有限公司」を正式に設立した。国務院国有資産監督管理委員会(SASAC)管轄下の中央企業として第22位に登録されたこの新会社は、中国のエネルギー安全保障と気候変動対策における野心的な取り組みの象徴といえる。本プロジェクトは、第14次5カ年計画(2021-2025年)に明記された国家重点事業として位置づけられている。構想段階ではあるが、その規模は前例のないものだ。総投資額は1兆元を超えると推測され、これは三峡ダムの約5倍に相当する。発電能力は最大6,000万kW(60GW)、年間発電量3,000億kWhのポテンシャルを持つとされ、実現すれば三峡ダムの3倍の規模となる。
