For the recent Climate Action Summit, UN Secretary-General António Guterres called on world leaders to come to New York on 23 September with concrete, realistic plans to enhance their nationally determined contributions by 2020, in line with reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 45 per cent over the next decade, and to net zero emissions by 2050.
Immediately following these discussions on climate, the SDGs Summit 2019 also took place at the UN headquarters. When the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted in 2015 it was decided that the leaders of each country would meet once every four years to review their progress, and this year marks the first time that the SDGs Summit was held.
