Following the commitment to leveraging synergies made during the G7 Hiroshima Summit in 2023, the UNEA6 Synergy Resolution was adopted in March 2024. This resolution encourages UN Member States to enhance synergies in implementing environmental conventions. The resolution has gained attention, being highlighted in the April 2024 G7 Climate, Energy, and Environment Ministers' Meeting communiqué and further referenced in the OECD Ministerial Statement in May.

To deepen understanding and share best practices in expanding synergies, a side event co-hosted with UN-DESA was held at the July 2024 High-Level Political Forum (HLPF), showcasing practical examples of synergistic approaches. In alignment with the UNEA Synergy Resolution, Japan supports initiatives like the NDC Partnership and the NBSAP Accelerator, emphasising the integration of synergies in national climate and biodiversity plans. This seminar will highlight the importance of these initiatives, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, and aims to raise momentum for adopting synergies in national and international policies.
