Kansai Research Centre of the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) in collaboration with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), held a seminar entitled “Initiatives and Issues related to Transfer of Japanese Environmental Technologies in India through Activities of Japan-India Technology Matchmaking Platform (JITMAP)” on January 13, 2023. This seminar was held as a part of programs in the India-Japan Environment Week* held on January 12 and 13, 2023, by the Ministry of Environment, Japan (MOEJ) and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEFCC) in India, together with related organizations from both countries.
The objectives of this seminar were to introduce the outline and outcomes of activities intended to promote Japanese environmental technologies through the JITMAP, to share specific barriers and challenges related to the introduction of Japanese environmental technologies and to discuss their solutions among speakers from both Indian and Japanese companies and JITMAP supporting organization, and highlight the importance of collaborative efforts between India and Japan to help India achieve net zero emissions.
In this seminar, Japanese and Indian companies introduced the outline and outcomes of their activities to promote the diffusion of Japanese environmental technologies in India through JITMAP. The Indian companies, in particular, reported on the benefits of introducing technologies and appropriate operational practices, including significant energy consumption reductions and further energy-saving plans.
In the following panel discussion, panellists from Japanese and Indian companies and JITMAP-supporting organization shared specific barriers and issues faced/experienced through the introduction of Japanese technologies, exchanged opinions on their solutions, recommendations to JITMAP, and the importance of further Japan-India cooperation.
JITMAP will continue to contribute to achieving Net Zero emissions in India and promote Japan-India cooperation toward this goal through its activities.
*The event was held integrally with high-level policy discussions, exhibitions, and seminars by the MOEFCC and MOEJ for promoting top sales of environmental infrastructures and creating efficient and effective business opportunities in the environmental sector for both India and Japan.
