IGES Contribution to UNEP’s Global Environment Outlook 7 (GEO-7): A Future We Choose

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) released the "Global Environment Outlook 7 (GEO-7): A future we choose" in December 2025. IGES contributed to the entire development process as a technical partner with inputs from 10 IGES researchers. The GEO-7 report highlights how the interlinked environmental crises—climate change, biodiversity loss, land degradation and desertification, pollution and waste—cause social and economic damage, and undermine human health and well-being. It calls for accelerated whole-of-government and whole-of-society action, presenting policy responses to drive simultaneous and integrated transformation across five systems: economic and financial, energy, food, circular economy, and environment.
