Seminar "City-to-City Collaboration for Zero Carbon Society 2025 -Contributing to Local Decarbonisation through Technology & International Solidarity-" (23 January)
Cities are responsible for approximately 70% of global greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption. As such, in order to achieve the Paris Agreement’s 1.5-degree target, it is vital that cities accelerate the transition to a decarbonised society, and address various urban issues such as environmental pollution and circular economy in an integrated manner. MOEJ has been implementing the "City-to-City Collaboration Program for Zero Carbon Society (C3P)" since fiscal 2013, based on the belief that knowledge sharing and technical cooperation through city-to-city partnerships are effective measures to support such a transition. This seminar will bring together C3P stakeholders and others from Japan and abroad who are working on local decarbonisation, and discussions will aim to build momentum for local decarbonisation and inspire a decarbonisation domino effect both domestically and internationally. The seminar will be held in the vibrant and international city of Osaka, ahead of the opening of the Expo 2025 (theme: Designing Future Society for Our Lives) in April, with the expectation that it will generate synergy to bring about a decarbonised society.
