Launch of the ISAP e-newsletter

The International Forum for Sustainable Asia and the Pacific (ISAP) is an annual gathering designed to share insights and foster extensive discussions about sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific. This forum welcomes an array of leading experts and diverse stakeholders from international organisations, governments, the business sector, and NGOs. Over the years, ISAP has served as a platform for contemporary discussions and knowledge exchange, engaging a wide range of practitioners.
This year, we will be hosting face-to-face Plenary Sessions and Thematic Tracks on 19 December, 2023. Some Thematic Tracks will also be held on-line before and after ISAP2023. In addition, we will be launching ISAP Plus, which will function as a format for side events at significant international proceedings or conferences throughout the year.
Detailed information about ISAP's schedule, content, dates, concept note and registration, will be periodically shared via this e-newsletter. To stay abreast of these opportunities, we encourage you to subscribe to our newsletter.

HLPF 2023 Side Events
"Translating Evidence to Action on Climate and SDGs Synergies in Asia and Beyond" (Official Side Event)

Amid urgent climate, biodiversity and pollution crises, solutions leveraging synergies across these domains are gaining focus. These integrated strategies can circumvent typical economic barriers to sustainable development and foster transformative multi-stakeholder coalitions. This focus has sparked research to quantify potential synergies, particularly in nature-based and co-benefit solutions, influencing policy statements like voluntary national and local reviews (VNRs and VLRs).
However, effectively bridging evidence and action remains challenging, partly due to limited lesson-sharing from regionally-developed synergistic actions. To address this, on 17 July, this side-event shared best practices from Asia and beyond, aiming to enhance the connection between evidence and action on synergies. Insights from this event will contribute to the 4th Conference on Climate and SDGs Synergies and the upcoming "Expert Group Reports-Climate-SDGs Synergies for Maximal Impact", launching at the UN SDG Summit in September 2023.

"Reviving the Decade of Action: exploring interlinkages and partnerships in water, energy, sustainable production and cities"

This event, held on 12 July as a side event of HLPF2023, examined the COVID-19 impact across Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the integrated, indivisible and interlinked nature of the goals. The pandemic has particularly emphasised the interlinkages (synergies and trade-offs) between various SDGs, particularly water (SDG 6), energy (SDG 7), industry (SDG 9), sustainable cities (SDG 11) and partnership (SDG 17).
These SDGs are deeply interconnected with other SDGs. Through identifying strong synergies and trade-offers across goals and related targets, countries can design integrated, coherent policies and prioritise the allocation of scarce resources to build back from the pandemic while advancing the implementation of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The event investigated interlinkages at the thematic, regional and country level to discuss examples of possible applications, implications and best practices.
