Yuqing (Ariel) Yu is a principal researcher of the Institute for Global Environmental Strategy (IGES) and Deputy Director of IGES Regional Centre in Bangkok. Since 2015, she has operationalized the UNFCCC-IGES Regional Collaboration Centre for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok, and has been responsible for various thematic areas, including Nationally Determined Contributions, Transparency, CDM Standardized Baseline, carbon pricing, and climate finance. Additionally, she has led various consulting projects, commissioned by World Bank, UNEP, GIZ and other development partners, on promoting the adoption of climate pricing instruments and catalyzing climate finance in the region. Before relocating to Bangkok, she worked at IGES Headquarters in 2013 and 2014, with a focus on promoting low-carbon technologies and building capacity of government officers. Before joining IGES, she worked for Climate Policy Initiative Tsinghua University from 2010 to 2013, focusing on China’s low-carbon development and energy-related policies. She has around 15 years of working experience in climate change related fields, and holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University, a Master from Cornell University, and a Bachelor from Fudan University.
