　現在アジアの開発途上国では、産業活動の集中がもたらす負の影響に対処するための懸命な取り組みが行われている。産業エコロジー理論の影響を受けた多くの地域では、経済発展を阻害せずに産業の環境負荷を軽減する戦略として、エコタウンやエコインダストリアルパークが推進されている。これらのエコアプローチが採用されているのは、現時点ではまだ都市部を拠点とする従来の製造業に限られているが、製造業を中心とする国々にとっては優れたモデルとなる。 　一方、従来型の製造業だけでなく新たな産業の導入を進めている国の場合は、農村地域、特にまだ自然が残る都市農村境界域に開発のチャンスが秘められている。これらの地域では既に、原材料の供給源と都市部市場への平等なアクセスを目的とした新興産業のクラスターが形成されているが...
