The Final (3rd) Workshop on the National Long-term Roadmap to Synergise Mitigation and Adaptation in the ASEAN Region

The concept of a “Climate Resilient Development Pathway” (CRDP), highlighted in both the IPCC’s Fifth and Sixth Assessment Reports, refers to sustainable development trajectories that integrate adaptation and mitigation, with a net-zero transition recognised as a necessary condition.

Since the Scoping Workshop held in March 2023 (proceedings available here), IGES, together with leading think tanks across ASEAN countries, has been conducting research to develop a “macro-frame” for a long-term roadmap that aligns mitigation and adaptation efforts to support sustainable development in Asia. Partner institutions include IPB University, Thammasat University, the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), and the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Climate Change (IMHEN). We organised a webinar "Co-creating the National Long-term Roadmap to Synergise Mitigation and Adaptation in ASEAN" at ISAP2024.

This project aims to contribute to the formulation and revision of Long-Term Strategies (LTS), Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), and sectoral policies across ASEAN member states, as well as the ASEAN Climate Change Strategic Action Plan 2025–2030 (ACCSAP).

This virtual workshop presented key messages from the Technical Report on the Guidance for the Long-term Roadmap to Synergise Mitigation and Adaptation in the ASEAN region, ahead of its official release. The event gathered stakeholders from government, industry, think tanks, youth groups, civil society organisations (CSOs), and NGOs.
