Commemorating the Japanese Edition of the “Science-Based Solutions Report: Air Pollution in the Asia-Pacific Region” “Symposium on New Directions and Future Initiatives for Air Pollution Control in Asia" -Aiming to simultaneously solve problems with air

Wednesday, 22 May, 2019 (14: 00-17: 10)

Air pollution, which has become a serious social problem in the Asia-Pacific region, is closely related to climate change, in terms of both impact and necessary countermeasures. It is also an important issue for achieving the SDGs.

Thus, at the request of the first UN Environmental Assembly, a core group of Asia-Pacific scholars summarised the scientific foundations for concrete solutions to address the problem of air pollution, in the “Science-Based Solutions Report: Air Pollution in the Asia-Pacific Region". With the announcement of the report at the First Global Conference on Air Pollution and Health, held by the World Health Organization (WHO), Asia's international promotion of countermeasures against air pollution are currently receiving a significant amount of attention.

Therefore, IGES and the Asian Center for Air Pollution Research (ACAP) will publish a Japanese edition of the report to raise the interest of stakeholders in Japan, and they are hosting this symposium as an opportunity to consider involvement in measures to control air pollution.

Along with publication of the report in Japanese, this symposium will present its background and contents, while also offering a place to discuss actions that should taken by the Japanese administration, research institutes, the private sector, and the attendees themselves.
