ISAP2026 Thematic Tracks: “Building Resilient and Sustainable Cities amid Climate Change and Water Challenges” (30 September)
This session aims to contribute to sustainable and resilient cities in Japan and the wider Asia-Pacific region. The discussion will focus on how scientific knowledge on climate change and the water environment can support urban resilience and sustainable development. Through presentations by three experts and a panel discussion, the session will delve into the future risks to water resources and urban flooding, and explore how prediction, assessment and cross-sectoral knowledge can support adaptation planning, risk-informed decision-making and resilience-building in cities and communities.

ISAP2026 Thematic Tracks: “Applying SEPLS to OECMs: From Concept to Real-World Impact” (5 October)
A landscape approach is a powerful way to jointly tackle climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss, and Socio-ecological Production Landscapes and Seascapes (SEPLS), promoted globally under the Satoyama Initiative, are key to advancing Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECMs) under Target 3 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. This session explores how effective SEPLS management enhances biodiversity and supports OECM recognition. Featuring Satoyama Development Mechanism (SDM) project implementers and government representatives, the session will highlight achievements, share practical lessons, and provide insights for advancing OECMs and sustainable biodiversity management.

(Recorded Video Available) ISAP2026 Thematic Tracks: “From Waste to Climate Solutions: Circular Economy and Methane Action in South and Southeast Asia” (7 August)
This session brought together policymakers, researchers and practitioners from across South and Southeast Asia to discuss how we can move from commitments to implementation of circular economy models. The discussion focused on replicable solutions, enabling policies and cross-country collaboration. It concluded with a forward-looking dialogue on the roles of governments, businesses and communities in accelerating a just and inclusive transition.
