ISAP2026: "Strengthening Local Resilience to Planetary Crises: Scaling up Synergistic Solutions" (22 July)
IGES is set to host the 18th International Forum for Sustainable Asia and the Pacific (ISAP2026). For the first time, ISAP will be held in Kansai under the overall theme, ‘Strengthening Local Resilience to Planetary Crises: Scaling up Synergistic Solutions’.
The Plenary Sessions (hybrid) will take place on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, at the Lasse Hall in Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, while the Thematic Tracks will be held online from August to October 2026.

Workshop on 1.5°C Lifestyles in Kitakyushu 2026 - Exploring Global Warming Through Food - (28 July - 10 August)
IGES has held a series of "Workshops on 1.5°C Lifestyles" in various cities in Japan, in which participants learn about climate change and the Paris Agreement as well as practical ways to reduce GHG emissions in everyday life. The sixth workshop in this series, "Workshop on 1.5°C Lifestyles in Kitakyushu 2026" will be held in July and August in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, with a focus on food. This workshop has been co-organised with Kitakyushu Youth Station, and invites the participation of a wide range of students, from junior high school, high school, vocational college, university and postgraduate programmes as these are the young people who will become the future leaders of local society.

Asia Waste Methane Comparative Analysis Webinar (5 June)
This webinar underscored that effective methane mitigation in the waste sector depends on strong implementation, reliable data and adequate financing. Participants highlighted the importance of waste prevention, segregation and collection, alongside improved MRV systems and regional collaboration to accelerate emissions reductions and attract investment.

"Plastic Pollution Countermeasures: Effective Global Actions and Case Studies from East Asia"

 IGES teamed up with experts from ASEAN+3 Member States and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) to publish this handbook which gives a comprehensive, evidence-based overview for policymakers, practitioners and researchers.
The handbook provides a cross-national assessment of plastic pollution and its broader implications, and presents case studies and policy trends from 11 countries, examining common challenges such as addressing environmental and health impacts and initiatives covering the entire life cycle, as well as setting out recommendations for the implementation of effective policies.
