Joint Webinar - "Promoting Evidence-based Policymaking to Tackle Marine Plastic Pollution in Asia-Pacific" (18 July)

IGES, the Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ), OECD, and UNEP's Global Partnership on Plastic Pollution and Marine Litter hosted a joint webinar on marine plastic pollution. Participating experts examined existing initiatives on monitoring, reporting and sharing policy-relevant information to promote evidence-based policymaking (EBPM).

Workshop - "Climate Impact Assessment in the Waste Sector Using IGES EQT Version III" (16-17 June)

IGES Centre Collaborating with UNEP on Environmental Technologies (IGES-CCET), in collaboration with the Urban Unit, jointly organised a two-day capacity-building workshop in Lahore (Pakistan). The workshop brought together municipal officials, technical practitioners and waste sector stakeholders to enhance their understanding and application of lifecycle-based tools for assessing greenhouse gas (GHG) and short-lived climate pollutant (SLCP) emissions from waste systems. The training introduced participants to the updated Emission Quantification Tool (EQT Version III) and equipped them with practical knowledge to develop data-driven, climate-responsive solid waste strategies at both city and national levels.

Workshop - "Formulation of Solid Waste Management Strategy for Sahiwal Division" (13 June)

IGES Centre Collaborating with UNEP on Environmental Technologies (IGES-CCET) organised this workshop to develop the Solid Waste Management Strategy for Pakistan's Sahiwal Division, bringing together senior officials, technical experts and local stakeholders. Key discussion themes included policy alignment, circular economy integration, informal sector inclusion, institutional capacity-building, and the importance of source segregation and youth engagement.
The event successfully established the foundation for a comprehensive, sustainable SWM strategy emphasising multi-sector collaboration, innovation and community empowerment across the region.
