Advancing Article 6 of the Paris Agreement: Second Advisory Group Meeting in Tokyo

The Paris Agreement Article 6 Implementation Partnership (A6IP) Center, with IGES as its secretariat, held its second Advisory Group Meeting in Tokyo on 11-12 March 2025, bringing together around 90 participants from governments, organisations and the private sector. This first meeting since Article 6 became fully operational provided a platform to exchange updates, best practices and challenges in implementing Article 6 mechanisms, including independent crediting approaches. Key topics included the global status of Article 6 projects, success stories from emission reduction initiatives in India, Ghana and Thailand, the promotion of high-integrity carbon markets, and capacity-building efforts. The A6IP Center also introduced its FY2025 activities and its Mid-term & Long-term Plan through 2050, highlighting the importance of international collaboration and partnerships in achieving climate goals.
