Framing Transformative Change in Sustainable Tourism: Case of Mangrove Eco-tourism for Artisanal Fishermen in Mauritius

Event: Fifth Science-policy Forum For Biodiversity
Date: 12 December 2022, Montreal, Canada

This is presented at the Fifth Science-policy Forum For Biodiversity on 12 December, COP15 in Montréal. It aimed to apply the Tourism and Sustainable Transformation Framework, while integraing the recent findings from the IPBES assessments, to the case of coastal communities in Mauritius where the majority of the local communities are artisanal fishers or engaged in tourism industry. It was done to analyze how the Framework can help us identify the required actions to transform the coastal village into a sustainable destination through introduction of ecotourism using mangrove forests which have not been used as a tourism resource in the area.
