The 16th Environmental Congress for Asia and the Pacific (ECO Asia 2008) was convened in the city of Nagoya, Japan on September 13, 2008. The Congress hosted by MOEJ and the city of Nagoya. The Congress was attended by national delegates, including Ministers and senior official s from 11 countries, representatives of 16 international organizations, and a wide range of other participants.
Reaffirming the importance of regional cooperation in addressing a wide variety of environmental issues in line with tackling sustainable development challenges in the Asia-Pacific region, the annual Congress aims at exchanging information and views on policies and measures at regional, national, and local levels. ECO Asia 2008 focused on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity,considering the increasing importance of this topic. Through exchanging views and information on the achievements and activities taking place in the region, the meeting aimed to enhance the momentum to successfully convene CBD-COP10 In city of Nagoya, Japan in 2010.
