In November 2023, Yusuke Matsuo, Programme Director of Business Task Force at the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), was awarded the Golden Book Award by the Small and Medium Enterprise and Startup Administration (SMESA), Ministry of Economic Affairs Taiwan, for his book Corporate Management in an Era of Climate Change. The award ceremony will be held in Taiwan in July 2024.
The SMESA established the Golden Book Award to recognise publications that challenge traditional management thinking models and broaden managers’ perspectives and to recommend such books to small and medium-sized companies seeking to improve their management capabilities. Since the award was established, eligible books have been chosen annually through a rigorous selection process and are expected to contribute to improving corporate competitiveness.
“Corporate Management in an Era of Climate Change” was written and published in 2021 for those seeking to improve management decision-making precision in the face of significant risks posed by climate change and the volatile economic landscape.
The book explains the context and logic of how climate change affects corporate value, providing clear explanations for transforming risks into opportunities. It also includes the author’s unique knowledge from his experience of working as the Executive Director of the Japan Climate Leaders Partnership (JCLP), as well as a wealth of practical examples from JCLP member companies committed to decarbonisation, thereby highlighting the challenges and discussions in this field.
Since its publication, the book has been reprinted four times and has consistently maintained a prominent position in Amazon’s business book rankings in the environmental category for the past 2 years. Even after this extended period, it continues to receive praise, particularly from Japan’s corporate leaders, establishing itself as a valuable resource in the domestic business community.
