IGES Researcher Selected as a member of the Policy and Finance Committee of World Adaptation Science Programme (WASP)

Dr. Sivapuram Ventaka Rama Krishna PRABHAKAR, Principal Policy Researcher, Adaptation and Water area, IGES has been selected as a member of the Policy and Finance Committee of World Adaptation Science Programme (WASP). WASP's vision is primarily to fill the gaps in adaptation knowledge and provide decision-makers with science-based policies, solutions and actions for successful adaptation to climate change in vulnerable developing countries.

WASP was launched at the 24th Session of the Conference of the Parties to United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP 24) on the 6 December 2018 in Katowice, Poland, and has since been led by seven UN agencies: the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the Secretariat of UNFCCC, the Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) and the United Nations University (UNU). 

The Policy and Finance Committee (PFC) of WASP is an international panel composed of members from the policy and finance sectors, including the banking sector, investors, science-policy interface leaders and policymakers. The mandate and duties of this Committee are to liaise with relevant policy and finance communities and organisations, and support network building, to address the knowledge gaps identified by the policy and finance communities and organisations, to support and contribute to the exchange of information, as well as to initiate, support and co-organise the biennial international climate change Adaptation Futures conference series.
