Launch of the G20 Special Webpage

The G20 Leaders Summit will be held in Rio de Janeiro under the Brazilian presidency on 18 and 19 November. This year’s slogan is ‘Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet’. The G20 is being called upon to demonstrate leadership in uniting to promote sustainable development and prosperity while addressing the triple planetary crisis: climate change, loss of biodiversity and environmental pollution. This Special Webpage features the outcomes of the G20 Environment and Climate Sustainability Ministerial Meeting, which was held on 3 October, and the Energy Transitions Ministerial Meeting on 4 October. The webpage introduces articles on the main trends and points of interest related to climate, energy, environment and sustainability, as well as related IGES publications.

Launch of the Summit of the Future Special Webpage

From 22-23 September, the United Nations Summit of the Future was held at the UN Headquarters in New York. The aim of the Summit is strengthening global governance and accelerating the implementation of internationally agreed goals, especially the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This special webpage introduces contributions made by IGES to the Summit and the results of its contributions, as well as research on synergistic solutions.

Launch of the ACCSAP 2025-2030 Project Special Webpage

The ASEAN Climate Change Strategic Action Plan (ACCSAP) 2025-2030 serves as the roadmap for addressing climate change in ASEAN up to 2030. IGES contributed to the development of the "ASEAN State of Climate Change Report (ASCCR)" in 2021, the first comprehensive report integrating the climate change situation across the ASEAN region. ACCSAP translates the high-priority actions identified in the ASCCR into specific regional activities, making it the integrated and strategic official action plan. This special feature page will present updates on the progress of ACCSAP, including the status of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) updates from ASEAN countries, Japanese translations of specific strategic documents, and information on related events.

What to expect at CBD COP16 (10 October)

Join IGES Director of Biodiversity and Forests, Andre Mader, as he discusses key aspects of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) with experts David Duthie, former Senior Programme Officer at UNEP, and Alice Hughes, Associate Professor at Hong Kong University. Key topics include: Parties’ progress with NBSAP revision, Mechanisms for planning, reporting, monitoring and review, Resource mobilisation and capacity building, Scientific and technical needs to support the implementation of the GBF.

【ISAP2024】 Thematic Tracks of the 16th International Forum for Sustainable Asia and the Pacific

On Tuesday, 23 July, IGES hosted the plenary and parallel sessions of the 16th International Forum for Sustainable Asia and the Pacific (ISAP2024). ISAP provides a platform for diverse discussions on sustainable development from an Asia-Pacific perspective. Under the overarching theme "Taking an Integrated Approach to Overcome the Triple Planetary Crisis," ISAP2024 continues with thematic tracks until November.

【ISAP2024】Thematic Track 1 "Can Socio-ecological production landscapes and seascapes (SEPLS) promote a sustainable food system? - Linking science and practice" (10 September)

In this session, we discussed how socio-ecological production landscapes and seascapes (SEPLS) have the potential to function in a sustainable food system, not only for production but also in terms of other aspects within the food system as a whole. The session looked at how SEPLS can promote the transformation of food systems globally, and discussions linked the concept of SEPLS to recent scientific research on food systems. This was followed by presentations of case studies from Taiwan and Mexico. There was also a panel discussion featuring international experts on this topic. Climate Security Webinar Series "Upcoming US elections and Implications for Climate and Industrial Policy"(10 September)

This webinar focused on the potential implications of the upcoming US elections on climate and industrial policy, with a special focus on climate security. It provided an overview of the current US climate policy landscape and explored how different election outcomes could reshape domestic and international climate strategies. Key themes included the interplay between climate policy and security, the influence on global climate negotiations, and the role of green innovation in shaping future industrial policies.
