City Profile
The history of Avcilar dates back to prehistoric ages. The remnants of the Bathonea Ancient City, an old port city, were discovered through excavations carried out in the Kucukcekmece Lake basin in Firuzkoy neighborhood. When the historical artifacts found in these excavations were examined, it was found out that some of the tools used in daily life date back to times before the common era and some archaeological findings belonged to the Vikings. It has been revealed from ongoing excavations that the ancient city was inhabited even in the Eastern Roman Empire era (Erbil, 2014). It is known that during and after the conquest of Istanbul in 1453, there were people settled in Avcilar.
