Avcılar’s 2022-2023 Voluntary Local Review (VLR) Progress Report provides a comprehensive overview of the district’s sustainable development journey, highlighting significant progress in urban resilience, social inclusion and environmental sustainability. City Profile

Avcılar, located on the European side of Istanbul, is a dynamic district known for its historical heritage, coastline, and industrial and logistical advantages. It is undergoing a comprehensive transformation process with projects focused on sustainable development. The history of Avcılar dates back to the ancient city of Bathonea, situated in the Küçükçekmece Lake basin. Excavations have revealed that it was a significant port city and home to various civilizations, from the Eastern Roman Empire to the Vikings. Today, Avcılar continues its modernisation while preserving its cultural heritage. Avcılar Municipality carries out key projects in areas such as climate action, social equity and sustainable urban development in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
