On 19 March, Mr. Sang-Hyup Kim, Executive Director of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) visited IGES Tokyo Sustainability Forum for a meeting to discuss strengthening collaboration in addressing global environmental issues.
During the meeting, Mr. Kazuhisa Koakutsu, Director of the Paris Agreement Article 6 Implementation Partnership (A6IP) Center, introduced "The Paris Agreement Article 6 Implementation Status Report: 2025 Edition", which sets out global progress on Article 6 implementation and related analysis. He explained that, while notable progress has been made in international carbon markets and the implementation of Article 6, many countries still face challenges and require support to implement their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) as they still do not have sufficient national institutional arrangements in place to carry out authorisation and registration, highlighting the need for continued capacity-building. Executive-Director Kim introduced GGGI's efforts to expand carbon markets, including the launch of the Carbon Transaction Facility in 2024, and emphasised that international cooperation is key to advancing such initiatives globally.
Through this strategic exchange, IGES and GGGI reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen cooperation on creating carbon markets and promoting a circular economy.
