IGES and KEI Renew MOU to Advance their Collaboration

Announcement

On 5 June 2025, the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and the Korea Environment Institute (KEI) renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

IGES and KEI have been partners since signing their first MOU in March 2003, with several renewals over the years. The latest renewal coincided with IGES President Kazuhiko Takeuchi's participation in the KEI Global Forum, held on 5 June 2025 on Jeju Island, Republic of Korea. The MOU reaffirms comprehensive cooperation between both parties in a wide range of areas, including sustainable development, climate change and other environmental challenges. Specific areas of cooperation in which the two institutes have already made progress include:

  • ● The formulation of the ASEAN Climate Change Strategy Action Plan 2025-2030 (ACCSAP).
  • ● The China, Japan and Korea (CJK) Decarbonisation City Study within the TEMM framework (Tripartite Environment Ministers' Meeting).
  • ● The Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Information Platform (AP-PLAT).

Finally, under the updated MOU, the research institutes plan to advance their collaborative research, co-author publications, participate in each other's meetings and symposia, propose new projects jointly, and exchange research staff.
