IGES and ICIMOD renewed Cooperation Agreement to enhance collaboration on sustainable development

Announcement

IGES and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) have renewed a Cooperation Agreement to further strengthen the long-term cooperation on mutual areas of interests of both organisations.

The Parties have agreed on the following preliminary and overarching themes for the Cooperation Agreement: natural resource management, climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction, policy and governance, and Sustainable Development Goals. The agreement also includes the exchange and sharing of information, joint research and publications, capacity development programmes, and mutual contribution to jointly organised networks.

ICIMOD, a regional intergovernmental learning and knowledge-sharing centre established in Nepal in 1983, works to enhance regional and international cooperation to address regional and transboundary issues in the Hindu Kush Himalayan (HKH) region. The HKH region encompasses the eight countries of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal and Pakistan. ICIMOD’s mission is to build and share knowledge that influences regional policy, drives action, and attracts investment that enables the diverse countries and communities of the HKH to transition to greener, more inclusive, and climate resilient development. This cooperation agreement is an important step towards achieving both IGES' mission of a sustainable Asia-Pacific region as well as ICIMOD's mission.
