IGES and Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) updates Memorandum of Understanding

Announcement

The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) have updated and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance their joint efforts in policy research and sustainable development initiatives in Asia and the Pacific.

The two institutes have a long history of collaboration  and  the updated MOU prioritises cooperation in six areas namely resource efficiency and circular economy, waste and plastic pollution, climate change, co-benefits, water resource management, and the Regional Circulating and Ecological Sphere (Regional CES) approach.

Examples of collaboration between the two institutes include AIT requesting IGES to plan and coordinate visits to Japanese companies focused on PET recycling and Waste-to-Energy in July 2022, and IGES dispatching its staff member to AIT’s training programme on the Green Climate Fund. Additionally, IGES and AIT have worked together to promote policy dialogues and the implementation of decentralised wastewater management in the ASEAN region. The two institutes are now exploring potential collaboration involving AIT's newly established Global Center for Water and Sanitation.

This MOU represents a significant milestone in the joint efforts of IGES and AIT, as knowledge hubs in Asia, to achieve sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific.
