IGES and DSM Japan release joint article

Announcement

IGES Executive Director Mr. Hideyuki Mori and Mr. Yuji Nakahara, President and Representative Director of DSM Corporation, Japanese subsidiary of Royal DSM, today released a joint article discussing opportunities for Japan to contribute to a carbon neutral and sustainable future.

Royal DSM is one of the world's leading companies advocating global climate and sustainability action. Royal DSM's CEO, Mr. Feike Sijbesma, visited Japan in November 2017, during which time the company participated in three events supported by IGES.

These events included:

  • 1. "5th Stakeholders’ Meeting", hosted by the Japanese Ministry of Environment (MOEJ) and co-sponsored by IGES
  • 2. "Executive business discussion on the SDGs, featuring inputs Mr. Feike Sijbesma, CEO of Royal DSM", hosted by MOEJ, Global Compact Network Japan (GCNJ), DSM and IGES
  • 3. "Innovation for the Future: Climate Change and New Corporate Competitiveness" co-hosted by the Japan Climate Leaders Partnership (Japan-CLP) and The Economist Group. (IGES serves as secretariat of Japan-CLP)

In December 2017, the two organisations held two meetings at IGES's Headquarters and DSM Corporation's Japanese office, following which both parties affirmed their shared objective to work together towards realising a decarbonised, sustainable society in Japan. The article released today aims to carry this work forward, including by proposing strategic directions for addressing climate change through public-private collaboration.
