On 23 January 2024, the Kansai Research Centre (KRC) hosted a training seminar in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, in partnership with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and the Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA). The seminar targeted the “Compressed Air System” and “Steam Management System” technologies, with the following objectives 1) promoting the dissemination of the targeted Japanese technologies and their best operations in Indian industries by improving the understanding of energy auditors, consultants and energy managers, among others; and 2) improving awareness of the Japan-India Technology Matchmaking Platform (JITMAP) by introducing an outline and the results of activities to promote Japanese environmental technologies. The seminar supported by the Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ) and the National Productivity Council (NPC), a key local stakeholder in India.
The seminar was designed to combine a lecture with demonstrations of actual equipment as a JITMAP activity for the first time, allowing participants to better understand the technologies. The seminar began with an overview of the activities promoting Japanese environmental technologies and the results through JITMAP. This was followed by presentations by Mr. Tsukasa Saito, a compressed air system expert, and Mr. Daiki Tanaka, a steam management system expert. They focused on the features of the technologies, their advantages in environmental performance (low carbon and energy efficiency), life cycle costs, etc. and provided concrete examples to address these issues by the optimum operating the machines and systems.
Thereafter, the participants visited the NPC demonstration site, built with the help of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), as a training facility to understand Japanese technology. Mr. Saito and Mr. Tanaka continued their training by demonstrating the technologies using actual machines. The participants were very interested in both technologies and actively listened to and engaged with the experts’ explanations, asking several questions. The explanations, not only through lectures but also actual machine demonstrations, helped the participants improve their understanding of the technologies and had a positive impact.
