IGES will collaborate on the “Third Global Conference on Strengthening Synergies between the Paris Agreement and the SDGs”, held on 20 and 21 July. This event is co-convened by the UN DESA and UNFCCC Secretariat.
It is critical to strengthen co-benefits and accelerate synergies to achieve the 2030 Agenda and the 1.5-degree target of the Paris Agreement by 2030. The conference aims to build a foundation for synergistic actions that align with the climate and SDG processes and stimulate action by various global, regional and national stakeholders. This third conference held in Japan will be an opportunity to strengthen these synergistic efforts and accumulate knowledge and experience for the post-SDGs.
Ahead of the “Third Global Conference on Strengthening Synergies between the Paris Agreement and the SDGs” in July, IGES organised an event to encourage active participation in the conference and deepen discussions by stakeholders in the Asian region. The “Youth Inclusive Action on Integrating SDGs, Climate Change & Biodiversity” was held on 24 June.
UNFCCC, UNDESA, UNESCAP, MOEJ and stakeholders gathered to accelerate discussion and shared experiences. It also introduced notable actions in Japan based on the Circulating and Ecological Sphere (CES) concept, which develops the SDGs at the regional and local levels and integrates social, economic and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. In addition, it promotes a circular economy, creates a symbiotic society in harmony with nature, and achieves a decarbonised, self-reliant and decentralised society.
