On 21 January 2020, the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) organised a workshop on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) in Lao PDR. The workshop aimed to promote further dissemination of low carbon technologies in Lao, through the JCM. This included updating information on the JCM financing scheme, reviewing project experiences, and sharing contributions to achievement of the NDC and SDGs through the JCM. IGES researchers made presentations, including “Update on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) and Financing Programme”, “The JCM contribution to NDCs in energy related sector”, and “Contribution to SDGs by the JCM in Lao”. Participants from the Department of Climate Change, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) presented the current progress of financed projects, as well as SDGs-related-activities and actions in Lao. A private sector delegate, KNX Khounxay Group, made a presentation about the introduction of solar PV in Savannakhet Province, as a select JCM model project. They also shared the project's progress, and their knowledge gained through its implementation. Around 35 participants, representing the government and private sector, attended the workshop and were actively involved in discussion about further development of the JCM in Lao.
