Thelma Mahachi is a committed environmental sustainability specialist who, driven by the urgency of global environmental challenges, joined the Article 6 Implementation Partnership Center within the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) in late 2023. In her role, she contributes to the development of the Support Package, an initiative aimed at enhancing countries' capacity to implement Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and achieve their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
Throughout her career, Thelma has worked as a corporate sustainability consultant, collaborating with diverse businesses in Japan. Her focus was on guiding them toward ecologically responsible practices, reducing their environmental impact, and contributing to the broader goal of sustainability. Beyond corporate endeavors, Thelma actively engaged in biodiversity conservation efforts in Zimbabwe, conducting research on the impacts of climate change on terrestrial ecosystems and promoting awareness about the importance of biodiversity and coexistence with nature.
She holds a Master of Science in Sustainability from the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Studies in Sustainability (UNU-IAS) and a Joint Diploma in Sustainability Science from the University of Tokyo Graduate Programme in Sustainability Science (GPSS-GLI).
