Climate change adaptation must be promoted, bearing in mind that climate risks are context-dependent. Therefore, local stakeholders should play a key role in implementing adaptation actions. Locally-led adaptation (LLA) is the concept that promotes community-based action for enhancing resilience against climate risks, devolving decision-making to those who are directly affected by climate change.
Local Lead Adaptation Leads Innovation
As an endorsing institute of LLA principles developed by the Global Center of Adaptation and its partners, we aim towards capacity building to apply and upscale LLA practices in the Asia-Pacific region. To advance locally-led adaptation in the Asia-Pacific, IGES and Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN) are jointly implementing the project for building regional partnerships for promoting locally-led adaptation innovations stressing the use of Indigenous, traditional, and local knowledge systems. The project focuses on cross-learning from regional experiences by establishing model case site (MCS) in South Asia (e.g., Nepal), South East Asia (e.g., Vietnam) and the Pacific (e.g., Fiji) to co-develop context specific blue-prints of LLA. The lessons learned from the project will be used to upscale LLA practices in the Asia-Pacific region and share it though forums such as Global Gobeshona Conference, Asia-Pacific Adaptation Network (APAN) Forum, COP, etc.
