City Profile
Singra Municipality is located on the floodplain of Atrai River, within the famous moving wetland Chalan Beel in Bangladesh. The region experiences seasonal flooding due to its proximity to this wetland. The sediment and silt brought by the inflowing waters make the region highly fertile for agriculture and fishing. The local people have adapted their lifestyle to the changing wetlands, practicing seasonal agriculture and fishing accordingly. The area has submersible roads that remain usable after flooding. The population in 2021 was 49,797, with an almost equal gender distribution. The local economy relies heavily on agriculture, small retail businesses and sawmills, with nearly half of the population engaged in agricultural activities.
